    Abstract

In this paper, a method to synthesize techniques for segmented-body change driven virtual character deformation is proposed. To this end, a physically based CSA (Cross Sectional Area) that represents the area of a segmented muscle is defined. And CSAM (Cross Sectional Area Mapping) which maps CSA into a displacement is sequentially employed for the segmented muscle deformation with an increase rate. This method utilizes manipulation of each segmented body as well as a whole. In addition, it runs on HMD VR with somewhat high frame rate. To verify this method, we showed not only deformation results of human characters but also performance test. The techniques can be extended to the wide range of characters as well.
